Creating delicious cannabis-infused recipes doesn't have to be complicated or require fancy equipment. In fact, I want to stress how straightforward and accessible the process can be. Today, I'd like to introduce you to one essential tool I use for my cannabis recipes, the double boiler, and explain why it's so important to me. You don't need to invest in expensive gadgets or utensils; all you need is a simple double boiler setup to avoid scorching the THC and become self-sufficient in your cannabis culinary adventures.

Check out these recipes! I utilize the simple double boiler to create:

What is a Double Boiler?

A double boiler, also known as a bain-marie, is a basic kitchen tool that consists of two pots—one sitting inside the other ( or a pot on the bottom and a bowl on top).  The bottom pot is filled with water, and the top pot/bowl, typically made of metal, fits snugly over it. The purpose of this setup is to provide gentle and indirect heat for delicate cooking processes, such as melting chocolate or creating cannabis-infused products.

The Simplicity of a Double Boiler

The beauty of a double boiler is its simplicity. You don't need an expensive piece of equipment or specialized training to use it effectively. Here's how it works in straightforward terms:

1. Water in the Bottom Pot: The bottom pot is filled with water, just like when you're boiling water for pasta. This water is heated, and as it boils, it turns into steam.

2. Even, Gentle Heat: The steam rises and gently heats the contents of the top pot. Imagine the steam as a cozy, warm hug to the top pot. It's like a protective barrier between the heat source (boiling water) and what's cooking above.

3. Controlled Temperature: Because the top pot is exposed to the steam, it only gets as hot as the boiling water underneath it. This indirect heat ensures that the temperature remains consistent and doesn't get too hot.

Why I Prefer a Double Boiler for Cannabis Recipes

1. Preserving THC: THC, the compound responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis, is quite delicate. Exposing it to high temperatures can cause it to break down, resulting in less potent edibles. A double boiler ensures that the temperature stays below the boiling point of water, safeguarding the integrity of the THC.
